“Rare Occurrence”: Child Stuns Medical Community by Sharing Birthday with Both Parents

Caitlin and Tom Perkins had a very special event happen when their baby girl, Lucy Marie Perkins, was born. She came into the world on Tuesday night, making her the couple’s first child.

Caitlin and Tom are both amazing people. What’s even more amazing is that they were both born on August 16, 1986. Now, imagine this: Lucy was born on the very same day as her parents. That’s quite rare! There’s only a one in 48 million chance of a baby, their father, and their mother sharing the same birthday.

This special coincidence happened more than a week after Caitlin’s due date. Lucy was very eager to join in her parents’ joint 30th birthday celebration.

Before Caitlin and Tom, who are from Dirranbandi in South West Queensland, could have their birthday dinner, Caitlin went into labor and was taken to Brisbane’s Greenslopes Private Hospital.

Caitlin couldn’t believe it when her water broke. She was in denial because it happened unexpectedly.

But Lucy wasn’t waiting around. She arrived at 39 weeks, weighing a healthy 3.3kg, and made quite an entrance into the world.

Dr. Brad Robinson, Caitlin’s obstetrician, who has been working in this field for over ten years, said it was one of the most remarkable days of his life. He was thrilled when he got the call about Caitlin’s water breaking. He was happy because he had hoped for things to go this way.

Every year on August 16, the Perkins family will have a big celebration to mark their special day. That’s something they can count on.
