Johnny Manziel, the former NFL quarterback, has reportedly parted ways with Josie Canseco after nearly a year of dating.
Sources indicate that Manziel âhad some work to do on himself,â as he has been candid about his battles with depression and substance abuse.
The breakup is particularly shocking, as just a few months ago, in December, the couple shared a sultry bathtub video celebrating Manzielâs 32nd birthday. Canseco posted the video on social media with a heartfelt caption: âA love like you. My best friend and my forever. Iâm so proud of the man youâve grown into. You are the kindest heart Iâve ever met. Howâd I get so lucky. Happy birthday my baby.â
In the video, Manziel is seen washing Cansecoâs hair as they sit together in the bath, both unclothed.
The couple went public with their relationship in April, after first being spotted together at the Stagecoach music festival, and seemed to be growing closer. Canseco, a model, is the daughter of MLB legend Jose Canseco, while Manziel has reinvented himself as a businessman and podcast host, sharing tales from his rebellious past as heâs worked to turn his life around.
Manziel was once considered a top college football prospect at Texas A&M and was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in 2014. However, his time in the NFL was marred by off-field controversies, including alcohol-fueled nights and accusations of domestic violence, leading to his release from the Browns in 2016.
In August 2023, Manziel revealed his past struggle with suicidal thoughts in a Netflix documentary about his life.
Manziel remarked, âI think I was just running from problems.â Try to burn this thing down by engaging in direct self-sabotage.
I had made plans to accomplish all of my goals at that time in my life. After I spent as much money as I could, I intended to commit suicide.
I went and purchased a rifle a few months ago that I knew I would use. It seemed like an excuse and a way out for me, and I wanted it to get as terrible as possible so that it made sense.
Iâm still unsure of what transpired, but the gun simply clicked on me.
