Although Mariah Carey no longer needs the title of âQueen of Christmas,â Billboard is awarding it to her once again, as her iconic holiday hit has just broken another record!
Since its release in 1994, âAll I Want for Christmas Is Youâ has now topped the Hot 100 chart for three consecutive weeks, marking Mariahâs longest-running chart-topping song. This achievement brings its total weeks at No. 1 to 17 over the years.
Mariah celebrated the milestone by sharing a post from Billboardâs Instagram account, which featured the companyâs announcement on Monday. Her caption read, âThis is amazing!!!! This is something I will never, ever, ever take for granted. Merry early Christmas!!â
Previously, Mariahâs collaboration with Boyz II Men on âOne Sweet Dayâ (1995) held the record for the longest time at No. 1. However, âAll I Wantâ is now poised to potentially achieve even more success.
Itâs possible the song could stay at No. 1 for another two weeks, given the season, which would tie it with the longest-running No. 1 song of all time. Currently, the record is held by âOld Town Roadâ by Lil Nas X and âA Bar Song (Tipsy)â by Shaboozey, both of which spent 19 weeks at the top.
Whether it stays at No. 1 or not, the fact that Mariahâs song is constantly played on the radio and streamed (youâve probably heard it in the last few minutes) makes it likely that she could eventually secure the record.
And if not, thereâs always next year, when âAll I Wantâ will almost certainly be back at the top of the Hot 100 once again.
