Kevin Costner has seven kids now, but he wasn’t sure about having more after his first three with his ex-wife.
He had a tough choice when his girlfriend, Christine Baumgartner, wanted kids. She said they should either have kids or end the relationship.
Everyone has things they won’t budge on in a relationship, like honesty or religion. Kids are a big deal for some.
Costner met his first wife, Cindy Silva, in college in 1975. They got married in 1978 and had three kids: Annie in 1984, Lily in 1986, and Joe in 1988. Costner loved being a dad.
But his busy acting career and rumors of affairs strained his marriage, and they split in 1994. He then had a son with Bridget Rooney in 1996.
Costner met Baumgartner again in 1998 and they started dating. Despite their 20-year age gap, they got along well, except for one thing: kids. Baumgartner wanted them, but Costner, in his 40s, didn’t.
Baumgartner gave Costner a choice: have kids or lose her. They broke up for a bit while Costner thought it over.
He realized he didn’t want to lose her and agreed to have kids. They got married in 2004 and had three kids together: one in 2007, one in 2009, and one in 2010.
Costner says being a father is more important than acting. He’s glad he chose to have more kids and loves being a dad to all seven.
It’s important for both partners to agree on having kids, and Costner and Baumgartner made the right choice for them.
