A tragedy occurred at Taylor Swift’s concert at Estádio Olímpico Nilton Santos in Rio de Janeiro. A fan of the artist, 23-year-old Ana Clara Benevides, passed away during the star’s performance.
The city experienced intense heat during the concert. Ana Clara Benevides lost consciousness during the show, presumably due to cardiac arrest. On-site medical professionals attempted to resuscitate her, but were unsuccessful. In videos circulating on social media, Swift pleads with the stadium staff to provide water to the concertgoers. In a subsequent statement, the star mentioned that Benevides had passed away before the concert.
Shortly after the conclusion of the show, Swift expressed her shock at the incident on Instagram.
“I can’t believe I’m writing these words, but with a broken heart, I say that we lost a fan before my show tonight. I can’t even convey to you how devastated I am by this. I have very little information, except that she was incredibly beautiful and very young,” the singer commented.
Benevides was taken to Salgado Filho Municipal Hospital but passed away shortly thereafter. Fans online claimed that they were prohibited from bringing water to the venue.
