The legendary pop king Michael Jackson’s hat has found a new owner at a Paris auction, as reported by Vanguard. The black felt headwear was sold for an impressive sum of 77,600 euros. The auction house Hotel Drouot had estimated the accessory to be worth between 60,000 to 100,000 euros.
The hat became historic because it was the very hat that Michael Jackson wore when he performed his hit “Billie Jean” during the 1983 “Motown” television concert at the height of his fame.
During this performance, the artist amazed the audience with an incredible dance move that later became known as the “moonwalk.” This unique dance move astounded the world and has remained a standout moment in Jackson’s career and in the history of music.
It’s worth noting that there were around 200 memorabilia items from musicians at the auction, but the hat was the most interesting lot, even though the highest price was fetched by the guitar of the legendary bluesman T-Bone Walker, which sold for almost 130,000 euros.
As a reminder, Michael Jackson passed away at the age of 50 in 2009 due to respiratory and cardiac arrest.
