Miley Cyrus was in a relationship with Liam Hemsworth for about 10 years. The couple exchanged engagement rings in 2018, but just a year later, they decided to split. Rumors circulated on social media for a long time about Liam’s alcoholism and alleged infidelity with actress Jennifer Lawrence, and Miley herself hinted that she had a tough time coping with the divorce. Recently, she shared in her blog the moment when she realized she wanted to get a divorce:
“The Glastonbury Festival was in June, and that’s when the decision came to me. I realized that our attraction to each other was born not only out of love, as we had been in a relationship for 10 years, but also out of trauma, a desire to heal as quickly as possible. On the day of the show, I realized that I no longer wanted to work on these relationships.”
Miley Cyrus also recalled that the couple’s wedding took place shortly after their shared home in California was destroyed by wildfires. It brought them closer together at the time but later had an impact on their married life.
The singer also shared that after her breakup with Liam Hemsworth, she gradually learned to prioritize her feelings and desires:
“This is the moment when my work and my show were the most important for me. I think that’s why it’s so important to me now that this doesn’t happen again, that someone stands at the forefront for you.”
